Our origins go back to 1849 when the MacDougall family became formative figures in the development of the investment industry and leaders in sports and military life in emerging Canada. The firm endured wars, the Depression and more, and never stopped investing in the local economy and helping clients navigate turbulent times. Throughout their history, the MacDougalls remained inspired by responsible investment management, with a focus on sustainable development.
The Beginning and the Legacy
MacDougall, MacDougall & MacTier (3Macs) began in 1849 when Donald Lorn MacDougall (known as Lorn) became one of the first stock brokers in Montréal. He founded MacDougall Brothers which established the roots of MacDougall, MacDougall & MacTier. During the 1850’s, through insightful investments, Lorn played an important role in helping build the railroad system as well as the marine industry. He was increasingly recognized as a leader in the investment industry and in 1874, he became a founding member of the Montréal Exchange. His foresight helped develop many of the infrastructures that still form the fabric of our nation.
Over the next 100 years, 3Macs continued to flourish as five generations of MacDougall’s have followed one another into the business and with them generations of their clients’ families. The guiding principles that were rooted in the firm’s day to day activities remain standing to this day, nurturing the relationship we have with our clients and maintaining the pillars of integrity, independence, service, and performance.
In September 2016, 3Macs joined Raymond James Ltd. to become 3Macs, a Division of Raymond James Ltd. creating Canada’s leading independent investment dealer.
Today, Bart and his son David MacDougall carry on the legacy as MacDougall Family Wealth Management providing all-inclusive wealth management services to help grow and protect your family’s wealth. Through our guidance and personalized services and support, we set clients up for long-term success by helping them make informed financial decisions and to keep them accountable to their financial plan. We also educate families to protect and transition wealth to the next generation and prepare heirs to continue to grow and become stewards of their family legacy. This is the outcome that many generations of the MacDougall family have successfully done.
